On Thursday, I took a walk and brought along my camera because it was a lovely day and I hoped I might find some things worth photographing. This is the best of what I found.

This is one of the maples in my front yard. It's just beginning to turn. Last year it was spectacular, I'm hoping it will be again, though it's clearly not there yet.

This tree, on the other hand, is already a showstopper. The picture does not really do it justice. Standing there in the bright sunshine under the blue, blue sky...it was as orange as I've ever seen. It really looked as if someone had attacked it with a box of orange crayons.

As I started down the path to the stream near my house, I found this little guy enjoying a flower.

I've seen lots of these guys around this year, though I don't remember ever noticing them before.

This picture would have been better as a video. It loses something with the static nature of the picture. In reality, the breeze was making the yellow leaves dance against the sky and it was quite eye catching.

Photobucket
I seldom see really well defined spider webs, so I took a shot of this one even though it's not really spectacular in any way.

Fallen leaves in the stream.

I liked this one. It's reflections of the leaves above in the moving water in the stream bed. I just liked the colors and the patterns it made. :D

On my way home, I came across this last gasp of summer.

The last three pictures are by far the best ones, especially the second to last, the picture of the reflection. All that is missing is for you to perk up the contrast and hues. Do you have IrfanView? It's free and does a good job as photo-editing software.

The middle of a sunny day is not the best time for fall foliage pictures. The light washes out the colours. The hour after sunrise and before sunset really makes the colours glow. And digital cameras make it worse by further reducing contrast and saturation.
