Hummingbird Grooming

Yes, some more hummingbird pics. Do you wonder how this hummingbird achieves its bedhead look? Why with a rather long (for a hummingbird) grooming session!



This little lady perched on our tomato cage for 15 minutes (surely over an hour in hummingbird-time) digging with her beak, scratching, stretching and fluttering, and finally, yawning.



Sadly this is all backlit but nevertheless amusing.

Yes, it's so unusual! Not preening, I'm sure they do that regularly, but just being in one place for so long that we could watch and grab the camera.

They are -- everything is so miniaturized. I was very amused by it trying to scratch with those little feet. Like a very small T-Rex :D

Hah, yes, it's pretty quick, though also the angle of the camera and the lighting was not great. But at least it didn't fly away when it saw me.

I found a hummingbird outside my window not a week ago. I was surprised to see them this far north and this high up in elevation (I live in Colorado), so it was a real treat!
