I usually only see Starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) in the summer but on my walk this morning I spotted this male singing his heart out:

They are such colourful birds!

We have seen bunches around lately but I don't know that we've heard any singing. Maybe they're already paired off? There is definitely nest building afoot with all the birds.

I love the way they look so drab from the distance and then the sun hits them and they shimmer in all sorts of colours!

This is the first time I've heard one! If yours are nest building already it does sound as if they're already done the pairing up.

This is the first time I've heard one sing so I've no idea I'm afraid. I seem to remember reading that they're great mimics and can imitate all sorts of noises. This one definitely had a very varied repertoire.

Yes, I've heard that the can do uncanny imitations of things like car alarms and mobile phones!

Bird migrations have changed a lot. Our yard has been all over blackbirds for a week. I've seen starlings earlier too.
