More of the walk. Huntington Lane
Apr. 23rd, 2022 01:04 pmComing out at the far end of Short Wood (more bluebells)
Bluebells with the ferns beginning to unfold:

This little tree getting a foothold on the edge of the woodland amused me. This is the stump of an old telegraph pole. :o)

This brought us to Huntington Lane. It's hard to believe that this was a coal mining area from the 17th to the early 21st century!
The gorse (whin or briar if you prefer depending where you live) was in full bloom.

The wild garlic is beginning to bud up and will soon be in full bloom:

And those big oaks are starting to leaf up:

It was rather an impressive sky:

We headed into the Ercall Forest. This was a royal hunting forest in the middle ages:

The undergrowth was a carpet of dog's mercury:

A closer view of dog's mercury:

A waterfall of lichen (and at least one fungus)

And I'll post some more later

Date: 2022-04-23 07:53 pm (UTC)I love how bright and cheerful the gorse looks. My youngest sister worked in London for a few years and I remember the smell of coconut from the flowering gorse on the heath when I visited her in Greenwhich.
