We headed out over in the direction of the villages of Wroxeter, Charlton and Uppington:

A fine piece of fungus-y wood on someone's front:

The Wrekin in sleeping dragon mode:

And we struck off down a bridle path into the fields. For those of you who don't know the term, a bridle path is a track that's okay to ride horses on:

The Wrekin again :

Across a field of young barley and yes, there was a proper path:

A green sea of young wheat:

Buttercups abound:

I always feel sad to see elm skeletons but am glad of the  reminder all the same:

Young wheat which will be gold in a while longer:

Holy Trinity Church, Uppington from the surrounding fields:

That wood piece is so interesting -- nature's sculpture, I guess! Pretty view of the buttercups and the elm skeletons are striking.

Ha, what a great term! (It now makes me wonder what a collection of stumpery is called...)

Singular stumpery, plural stumperies. :D Though if you had a large amount, you might call it a ghost forest, especially if it had occurred naturally (e.g. flooding from a river route change, subsidence).

Dead wood is fabulous wildlife habitat, the bigger the better. A standing snag or a rotting log is full of life. We have some here.

Here, many towns have programs for recycling real Christmas trees. They are bundled together in brush piles for parks, or sunk in lakes as fish shelters.

Oh wow, these pictures are so pretty! I especially liked the elm with ivy (is it ivy?) growing all over it *w*

Sadly, the UK lost all its elms years back when Dutch elm disease destroyed hundreds of thousands of them.

Oh no! I didn't know that, it sucks :(((

Delightful landscape and pictures both! It feels almost like being there, too. Seems you went at the best possible time of the year.

Everything is so beautiful and green. :D

>>A fine piece of fungus-y wood on someone's front:<<

That's an interesting stumpery.

I remember reading somewhere about how Britain protects its bridle paths and new development has to make sure that it doesn't encroach on them, including with noise.

I love these views of the lanes.
