Ducklings!!!

A mother duck and two ducklings came to dabble in the overflow of our lock, to groom, and to have a nap. I may have taken quite a lot of photos.

Yes! We gave them some bird seed; they went a little bit bananas for it. Lots of excited peeping.

Yep! They were back briefly today, but the water was flowing quickly through the overflow due to all the canal boat traffic so they didn't linger.

Aw, ducklings! They are always particularly adorable when walking or running. They are speedy things!

Watching them scoot along through the tall grass is quite impressive, especially since you'd think it would be the equivalent of us trying to run through a corn field.

They really are amazing -- the way they zoom through water is boggling, especially given that less than 24 hours earlier they were just emerging from eggs but are active little bundles within the hour.

Thank you! She was very protective; you can see this especially in the photo where both the ducklings have their eyes closed and hers most decidedly isn't.

I love the three that are just the three of them standing by the water with the sun coming in and making the babies' fuzz glow like that.
