We've had these finches around since we first moved here but so rarely spot them (and even more rarely manage a photo of them). Not sure why they avoid our food plate but saw one flitting around the other day.

Some wildflowers from a recent walk.

We have a large hibiscus which is more of a vine than hibiscus actually. Come the end of summer it has to be cut back to a stump for it to regrow the next year. Last month it popped out its first flower and two of our other hibiscus decided to bloom the same day.

I caught the hummingbird coming and going at one point as well. I think it might have been last year when a hummingbird decided to investigate a closing bloom -- which is so big that the hummingbird disappeared inside it -- the stem alone was longer than the bird!

So different to our own native goldfinch!

The wild flowers are lovely.

Where I used to live, there was a white mulberry tree -- but we never got any mulberries because the goldfinches got there first. Crowds of them, fluttering through the entire tree. Beautiful!

Goldfinches and hummingbirds are as lovely as the wildflowers!

Goldfinches are seriously elusive for a bright yellow bird. We seem to have dozens, judging by their continual songs and calls; but I have seen exactly one. If I put up a thistle feeder I'd probably see more of them.

Your hibiscus flowers are just stunning.

Wow, that is one INTENSELY golden bird! Our native goldfinches look so drab and dreary in comparison.

Your hibiscuses are glorious!
