a profusion of poppies

Not far from where I live there's a dry, sunny slope and right now it's completely filled with bright orange Oriental Poppies (Papaver orientale). It's an old garden flower here in southern Sweden and occasionally it seems to thrive in the wild too.

There's nothing like them. A friend of mine had a clump in her garden, and when it was in bloom, cars passing by would slow or even stop so people could gape at the flowers.

They're such a striking sight. Sadly you hardly see them in gardens these days. Hopefully they'll become popular again soon.
