ysabetwordsmith: Cartoon of me in Wordsmith persona (Default)

Tonight I happened to glance out the window and spotted a colorful sunset. So I grabbed my camera and ran outside to take pictures. This gets me started on my goal of taking and posting photos at least once per season. \o/

This is the view of the house yard looking east. The grass has surprisingly much green left for this time of year.

Looking west from the driveway, colorful clouds spread behind the trees.

Here is a closer view of the sky through the trees.

Some of the clouds have a finer texture.

Farther to the south, the clouds are more purple and gray. Their fine wispy texture suggests ice crystals at high altitude.

As the sun sinks farther, the colors deepen.

Bonus photos: As I was walking back toward the house, I took a few more to show things we've been doing recently.

This is the mulch pile in the forest yard, near the end of the driveway. The very large, darker, coarser part is what the tree guys left. The much smaller, lighter, finer bit is what we made with the chipper.

The tree guys left this pile of logs near the driveway. We need to haul out the splitter and break them up a bit, but they're the right size for our woodstove.

I've been working on this brushpile near the driveway recently. It's hard to see, but toward the left is the pile of branches too big to break down by hand, and to the right is what I'm still working to make into smaller pieces. The big pieces are small enough that we can lean them against the sides of the bonfire pile in the firepit. Progress.
