Poof (Blue Milkweed), 11 x 6", watercolor and pastel on paper

I have these pods in my little home studio, where they are currently shedding pearly fluffy seeds all over my palette and I don't even care. I pick them as closed green pods in September/early October, and keep them and they split open gleefully in the dead of winter.

Oh, and a community question. If a tag doesn't exist for something I post, am I supposed to just add the tag myself? In this case, "seeds," "plants," "weeds" or "botanical" would fit but I don't see any of those.

Thanks! I've been staying really busy with teaching, a day job, and art. This is a good thing, though.

I'm intrigued with your green, glowy icon. Luminescent fungus, perhaps?

Thank you! The milkweed pods are becoming an annual tradition for me: pick them green and unopened, in the fall, and they split gleefully open in midwinter for me to draw.

Thanks! I'm committing to do something daily, and this began as my last-ditch "It's not midnight yet!" attempt to still be creative on a day when I otherwise hadn't been. I was sketching the start of this while Craig Ferguson's show was on.
