Red velvet mite

We had our roof redone recently. On the second day, the roofers took off most of the slates on the road-facing side of the house, and suddenly a whole mass of these tiny red spiders flowed down the walls and past the windows. I found it rather beautiful, so got out my macro lens to try to capture a clear shot of one.

Date: 2015-07-01 03:33 pm (UTC)we once had an "aggressive house spider" come to our house via a shipment of grains/flours from the US West Coast, and as they are poisonous it was a harrowing few days until we found it after my mom had gone to the ER for antidote from the first bite.
I generally like spiders from afar. I shriek very loudly about Wolf Spiders even though they are harmless to people and hunt insects that are not so great.
My cat Lily likes to eat spiders and then get an upset stomach for a few days. I...am glad we do not have many poisonous spiders around, as I don't know a good way of deterring her.
