We suspect there's more than one! This one is quite big but pretty sure we saw a second, smaller one as well. We're putting the camera out again to see if we can catch them together.
It's a piece of work kit for Partner but what's the point of being a scientist if you don't play with your toys? :D
We think there might be more than one. This one is pretty big but we're pretty sure there's a clip of another, smaller one. It's going back out again tonight in hope that we can catch them together.
I don't know if I get them regularly, but I have seen one in my garden before. I had to go out, get down on the ground and look from a different angle to be sure it wasn't a rat - IR would have made it so much easier!
The first night we had the camera out, it was in still/JPG mode, and we didn't get any clear shots, presumably because it was taking too long to integrate high res images. We could see there was a beastie but not identify it (rat? hedgehog? badger?). Putting it in low-res video mode seems to be the way forward!
Such wonderful creatures and what a great vid. We used to get a lot of hedgies, mother and babies would spend half an hour or so most evenings cleaning up around the bird feeders, rather too close to the dog on occasion - meaning bath and flea treatment for her! Sadly, since they started building on the orchard at the back of us, their visits declined and I haven't seen a single one this year, although, maybe they are around at night. It's so sad to see them killed on the road and we can hardly afford to lose a single one, such beautiful little things. Thanks for sharing.
We never see hedgies during the day, but I think maybe our garden is a little too close to the busy towpath (lots of dog walkers) for it. I'm really happy to have evidence that we have them, given how badly they've declined.
