Wonderful color on the moon last Saturday. Several photos came out like the one below, just a bright ball of light. But we did get a few pics of the color, and I like the way the branches framed it.
I took some pictures of the wildflower garden today after I finished cleaning it up. I leave things through the winter because some of the plants, like the northern sea oats and echinacea, have seeds for wildlife. I pick off and plant a lot of the seeds but never get around to all of them. Goldfinches especially like to cling to the seedheads and peck out the seeds.
You can't see that many of them in the photos but there was a huge flock of birds swirling around the sky yesterday morning when I went on a walk. I was able to get some of them on a video which also captured the sound -- my partner said it seemed like a scene from The Birds. There was a pretty color on the horizon, even if it was already 9 AM by then. ( Read more... )
I ended up not getting to sleep at all Friday night, and while I know that sunrise is around 5 AM at this time of year, it was still about 10 til and I was startled to realize that it was bright as day outside already.( Read more... )
Our remarkable sky viewing continued with a bright and clear view of the moon. I shot the above through my bedroom window. The result was surprising because the top bright disc was the direct shot of the moon, but apparently the window created a reflected view as well right below it, one which showed some details since it was less bright. This past month we tried to get photos of the Super Snow Moon but we had a very cloudy sky (as often seems to be the case at night) so opportunities were limited. However, I think it came out perhaps all the cooler for it because I swear it looks like some kind of interdimensional portal opening in the sky! ( Read more... )
