Spotted this really pretty plant on my walk today! According to PlantNet it's a Darwin's Barberry.

From Wikipedia:
Berberis darwinii was discovered in South America in 1835 by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle. It was one of many named in honour of Darwin. The berries of this species are known to have been consumed by prehistoric native peoples in the Patagonian region over millennia.

It is a popular garden and hedging shrub in the British Isles. The Royal Horticultural Society has given the species its Award of Garden Merit. The edible fruit is very acidic.

I was in England last week and one day when I took a walk by the River Yare in Norwich I spotted a bird I didn't recognise among the usual greylags and mallards. A bit of internet research showed it was an Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca). The breed was apparently introduced to Britain back in 17th century and is now mostly found in East Anglia and along the Thames.

Buzzard sits

This noble raptor has taken to sitting on a fence post opposite my office window, and giving me side-eye.

Youngest and I spent some time together quietly bird-watching after we filled up the peanut feeder on Saturday, and were rewarded with some very close-up views of a bright-eyed blue tit.
