We had a bunch of muskrat sightings over the summer. There has been a mating pair in our lake and they are still active as we can usually see one floating in the water most days.
Not together! I daresay it would be a brave hawk that would challenge the overprotective parents that are geese. These are the first bird babies we've seen so far this year. ( Read more... )
I was coming home a few months ago when I was startled not only to see a low flying hawk but it almost hit the car. The first photo is of it flying away and not great quality but I included it to demonstrate how low it was flying -- just a few feet above the road.
As it happens it landed at the entrance to our neighborhood, so I was able to stop the car and take some photos. It had caught a squirrel though I can't make it out in these pics.( Read more... )
We were startled to see this raptor out on our balcony yesterday. We've seen Coopers Hawks here before but this bird was gray rather than brown and seemed smaller. I was particularly struck by its red eyes. ( Read more... )
As we finished lunch last week I looked out the window and saw what seemed to be a hawk riding thermals. When I went on the balcony to get a picture turns out it was three of them. The close-ups aren't very good but it doesn't look like vultures to me. ( Read more... )
A recent sunset was SO pink I think it overloaded our camera. It was definitely very very colorful but even so these pics make it technicolored. The clouds don't even look like clouds but blue spots. ( Read more... )
I'm no raptor expert so I'm not sure if I've identified this one correctly, but I think this is a Cooper's hawk. Observed hunting over the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge in Washington state, USA, today.
Over the past week we were able to grab these photos of the tiniest to a pretty big bird. We have two battling hummingbirds at our balcony feeder. One has taken to staking out the feeder by perching on our tomato plant cage below. Unfortunately this means it's always backlit but we still liked the pic. ( Read more... )
